Bodegas Krontiras 'Wisdom' Malbec 2021 (100ml)

Bodegas Krontiras is a biodynamic estate just outside Mendoza, founded by Constantinos and Silvana Krontiras with the aim of making pure, expressive Malbec and natural-leaning wines.

The vineyards sit at altitude in Luján de Cuyo, where strong sunlight and cool nights give fruit both ripeness and lift. Winemaker Mariano Quiroga Adamo keeps the approach gentle, using concrete eggs and large neutral vessels to preserve freshness.

The wines feel vibrant and detailed, balanced expression that reflects both the place and the philosophy behind it.

Argentina’s vineyards were first planted by Spanish missionaries, later shaped by waves of Italian, Spanish and wider European immigration. The twentieth century brought high volume production, but the quality revolution of the 1990s transformed the country.  

The wine story here is shaped by altitude, sunshine and a blend of European heritage with modern ambition. The Andes provide a dramatic backdrop to its key regions, with Mendoza leading the way thanks to high elevation vineyards that offer purity and balance. The appellation system is very relaxed and gives producers room to innovate. Malbec is the flagship grape, delivering deep colour and supple fruit, while Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda and Torrontés add breadth and character. Cabernet Franc from Argentina (and indeed South America in general) is worth keeping an eye on. From the cooler slopes of the Uco Valley to the emerging vineyards of Patagonia and those closer to Buenos Aires to the east, Argentina is defined by bold wine, energy and bold regional identity.

High altitude vineyards in areas likeLujánde Cuyo and the Uco Valley give deep colour ripe dark fruit and a balance of richness and freshness that defines the style.
