A singular release from one of the Loire’s most important Sauvignon Blanc producers. After an exceptionally difficult and reduced 2021 harvest, Dagueneau set aside its usual individual cuvées and produced just one wine: XXI.

This is a taut, concentrated expression of Sauvignon Blanc, combining orchard fruit and citrus with flint, chalk and a firm line of acidity. There is intensity here, but also the precision and length that distinguish Dagueneau from more conventional examples of the variety.

Taking over his family’s estate in 1999 with no family guidance but complete creative freedom, sixth-generation vigneron Antoine Sanzay single-handedly rescued his family's prized Saumur-Champigny vines from the local co-operative. Drawing inspiration from Loire Valley legends and achieving full organic certification, he meticulously tends prime limestone parcels—including a coveted slice of the legendary Les Poyeux lieu-dit. Les Poyeux is Antoine Sanzay’s flagship Cabernet Franc, drawn from old vines planted in the 1960s on one of Saumur-Champigny’s most highly regarded clay-limestone sites.

The 2022 combines ripe raspberry and cherry with violet, subtle herbs and spice. The palate has the polish expected from Les Poyeux, but its fine tannins and refreshing acidity keep the wine precise and energetic rather than heavy.
