Tasting note

🦉 Santorini is home to some very low-yielding vineyards. A blend of ‘34’ parcels, we love the notes of lemon zest, salininty and smoky minerality drive. Firm and concentrated on the palate. Acidity is bracing yet controlled, stretching the wine into a long, tense finish. Powerful, precise and true to Santorini’s volcanic character.

About the producer

Artemis Karamolegos is one of Santorini’s standout producers, blending deep local roots with a modern, detail-driven approach. The estate works with old-vine Assyrtiko from across the island, including parcels in Pyrgos and Megalochori, where the volcanic soils and relentless winds shape naturally concentrated fruit.

Fermentation and ageing are tailored to each plot, ranging from stainless steel to large oak, always with balance in mind. The wines have both drive and texture, carrying that signature Santorini salinity.

Artemis Karamolegos has emerged as a leading voice in showing how refined and expressive Assyrtiko can be when treated with patience and precision.

Greece

Wine roots run deep in Greece, shaped by ancient civilisation, classical trade and centuries of regional winemaking. Despite periods of decline under Ottoman rule, the twentieth century brought revival through modern estates and renewed interest in native grapes. Today Greece is recognised for heritage-driven wines with a contemporary edge.

The wine culture is built on thousands of years of tradition, shaped by dramatic islands, mountain vineyards and a deep respect for native varieties. Its Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) system highlights regional identity form the mainland to the islands, across places such as Santorini, the Peloponnesse and Naoussa. Indigenous grapes define the landscape, with Assyrtiko delivering complex whites, Agiorgitiko offering supple reds and Xinomavro known for structure and perfume. You will also find Malagousia, Moschofilero, Liatiko and dozens of other local varieties that speak clearly of their origins.

From windswept Aegean islands to cooler northern plateaus, Greek wine is defined by diversity, freshness and a strong sense of heritage.

Santorini

Santorini is one of Greece’s most distinctive wine regions, shaped by volcanic soils, strong winds and minimal rainfall. Assyrtiko is the dominant grape producing tense, low-yielding, mineral-driven whites with bright acidity and a clean saline edge.

Vines are traditionally trained in low basket-shaped coils to protect them from the island’s harsh conditions. Smaller amounts of Athiri and Aidani appear in both dry and sweet styles including the well-known Vinsanto made from sun-dried grapes. Winemaking here focuses on precision and freshness allowing the island’s unique terroir to come through clearly.

Santorini remains a standout source of structured vibrant and unmistakably volcanic wines.
