Tasting note

🦉 Hailing from the Collio hills near the Slovenian border. This is an ageworthy Pinot Grigio, with notes of pear, citrus and a hint of salinity that glide across a sleek, subtly textured palate.

About the producer

Schiopetto is one of Friuli’s benchmark names, built on the quiet precision of the late Mario Schiopetto, who helped redefine what modern white wine could look like in the region. The estate sits in Caprivain the Collio hills, where meticulous vineyard work and a less-is-more approach in the cellar shape their beautifully clean, textural styles. Mario’s belief in stainless steel and gentle handling set a new bar for purity, and that philosophy still guides the team today. Expect focused, expressive interpretations of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon that show why Schiopettoremainssuch an influential voice in Collio.Oh, and it’s home to some of the best Pinot Grigio you’ll ever taste!

Italy

Italy’s winemaking roots run through the ancient Etruscans and Romans, who spread viticulture across the peninsula. Today, it blends deep tradition with forward-thinking producers who champion native grapes and terroir-driven styles.

The country is a patchwork of regions, grapes and traditions, producing everything from alpine whites in the north to sun-soaked reds in the south. Its appellation system is built around DOC and DOCG, which help signpost quality and origin across a landscape that can shift dramatically from one area to the next. Key grapes such as Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and Barbera sit alongside countless local varieties that shape each region's identity. Whether it is the structure of Chianti Classico and Piedmont, or the bright coastal styles of Sicily, Italian wine is ultimately about diversity and a strong sense of place.

Friuli

Friuli sits in Italy’s far northeast and is known for producing some of the best white wines. Grapes such as Friulano, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc lead the way, delivering clean flavours, bright acidity and a subtle mineral edge. The region also shines with fuller styles, including Ribolla Gialla and orange(skin contact)wine traditions in certain areas. Reds made from Merlot and Refosco offer a fresher, lighter profile. Winemaking here focuses on clarity and careful handling, often with minimal intervention. Friuli has built a reputation for modern, confident wines that balance freshness with real depth of flavour.
