Taste, texture & character

What’s in the glass?

Cherry and raspberry lead the way, with violet, a little fennel and warming clove adding detail. The palate feels supple and finely drawn, its red fruit lifted by a mouthwatering streak of acidity. Gentle tannins give a velvety finish without losing that refreshing edge. It is an inviting expression of Burgundy, with more depth than its modest appellation might suggest.

The people behind the pour

Domaine Claude Dugat

Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Claude Dugat is a small family estate established in 1955. Claude and Marie-Thérèse's children, Bertrand, Laetitia and Jeanne, now run its six hectares. Old vines, low yields and careful work by hand are central to the domaine's approach. Harvest timing is guided by tasting the grapes, with freshness a constant priority. Even this regional Bourgogne comes from vines within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, giving a particularly revealing introduction to a family better known for the village's celebrated appellations.

A sense of place

Burgundy, France

Explore wines from France
Burgundy

Burgundy is Pinot Noir country, and this wine begins in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin on clay and limestone soils. Its Bourgogne designation is regional, rather than a village or premier cru classification, but the vineyard address still matters. The cool, difficult 2021 season produced a small crop and wines noted for their freshness and finesse. Here, that character comes through in lifted aromas, supple fruit and lively acidity.

France

France offers many different expressions of red wine, but Burgundy remains a reference point for Pinot Noir. Place is central to the conversation: a regional appellation, a village and an individual vineyard each tell a different part of the story.
