Tasting note
🦉 If you’re a fan of Malbec, then this’ll be one of the better ones you’re ever likely to taste. Dark berries and a hint of floral lift weave into a broad, velvety palate. Acidity keeps the richness in motion, while fine tannins offer supple grip. Generous but balanced, with the region’s hallmark softness supported by a steady finish. Classic Paul Hobbs.

About the producer
Viña Cobos is Paul Hobbs’ flagship project in Argentina and a key name in the rise of high-end New World Malbec. Working mainly in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, the team focuses on precision farming and small-lot vinification to highlight the individuality of each site.
The wines combine depth with polish, showing fine tannins and a clear sense of structure. While Malbec leads the charge, Cobos also produces excellent Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, all made with the same measured, meticulous approach that has defined Hobbs’ influence in the region.
Argentina
Argentina’s vineyards were first planted by Spanish missionaries, later shaped by waves of Italian, Spanish and wider European immigration. The twentieth century brought high volume production, but the quality revolution of the 1990s transformed the country.
The wine story here is shaped by altitude, sunshine and a blend of European heritage with modern ambition. The Andes provide a dramatic backdrop to its key regions, with Mendoza leading the way thanks to high elevation vineyards that offer purity and balance. The appellation system is very relaxed and gives producers room to innovate. Malbec is the flagship grape, delivering deep colour and supple fruit, while Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda and Torrontés add breadth and character. Cabernet Franc from Argentina (and indeed South America in general) is worth keeping an eye on. From the cooler slopes of the Uco Valley to the emerging vineyards of Patagonia and those closer to Buenos Aires to the east, Argentina is defined by bold wine, energy and bold regional identity.
Mendoza
Mendoza is Argentina’s leading wine region and the heartland of Malbec. High altitude vineyards in areas likeLujánde Cuyo and the Uco Valley give deep colour ripe dark fruit and a balance of richness and freshness that defines the style. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc also thrive alongsidea host ofwhites such as Chardonnay and Torrontés(although better expressions of the latter can be found in Salta to the north). The dry climate and abundant mountain water make irrigation a key part of viticulture while the Andes playa major rolein shaping temperature and sunlight.Mendoza’s mix of altitude climate and modern winemaking has turned it into a global reference point for boldwell-structuredwines.
