Crozes-Hermitage 2023

Northern Rhône, France2023

Syrah

Yann Chave left a finance career in 1996 to rebuild his family’s northern Rhône domaine around organic farming. His 2023 Crozes is the estate’s unembellished calling card, matured in stainless steel rather than dressed up in oak.

Yann Chave

The people behind the pour

Yann Chave

Swapping a Parisian finance career to return to his family's Northern Rhône roots in 1996, Yann Chave transformed a traditional orchard farm into a dedicated beacon of precision viticulture. Now joined by a new generation of globe-trotting talent, the estate crafts exceptionally vibrant expressions across Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph that trade heavy extraction for a slender, silken elegance and effortless terroir clarity.

A sense of place

Northern Rhône, France

Explore wines from France
Northern Rhône

The Northern Rhône is a narrow strip of steep slopes where Syrah takes centre stage in its most focused and famous form. Regions such as Côte Rôtie, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph deliver complex, age-worthy reds with firm structure shaped by the cooler climate and granitic soils, with Crozes-Hermitage often offering more value and approachability. Viognier plays a key role too in producing expressive whites in Condrieu and sometimes adds lift to Syrah in co-fermented blends. Marsanne and Roussanne round out the white offering in areas like Hermitage. The Northern Rhône is a place of precision and purity with styles that are structured, confident, clearly defined and sought-after.

France

France remains the benchmark for many of the world’s classic wine styles, built on a deep history of regional identity and an appellation system designed to protect it. AOC rules outline where grapes can be grown and how wines are made, giving structure to places such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhône. Key grapes like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah all find their most famous expressions here, alongside countless regional varieties. From the mineral-driven whites of the Loire to the rich blends of the south, French wine is ultimately about clarity of origin and a commitment to balance.
