Small pours. Big discoveries.

The Piedmont Trio

There’s more to Piedmont than Barolo. This trio brings together Roagna’s Barbera d’Alba and Dolcetto d’Alba with Stefano Occhetti’s Roero Riserva, exploring three grapes through two producers worth knowing. Barbera brings freshness, Dolcetto offers dark-fruited charm, and Nebbiolo adds perfume and structure. Three 100ml pours to taste side by side, ideally with something good on the table. Your next Italian favourite could be in here.

Roero Rosso Riserva 20211 × 100ml

Stefano Occhetti

Roero Rosso Riserva 2021

Piedmont, Italy
Nebbiolo

Wild berries, violet and liquorice, with the perfume and structure of Nebbiolo.

More about this wine

Stefano Occhetti left an engineering career to reclaim his grandfather’s low-yielding Nebbiolo vineyard in Roero. The 2021 Riserva is the estate’s top wine, built from sandy hillside soils rather than Barolo’s heavier marl.

Barbera d'Alba 20201 × 100ml

Roagna

Barbera d'Alba 2020

Piedmont, Italy
Barbera

Dark berries, red plum and sour cherry, lifted by Barbera’s lively freshness.

More about this wine

Roagna gives Barbera the patience usually reserved for its Barolo and Barbaresco. Old estate vines, extended submerged-cap maceration and years in neutral wood and concrete turn a supposedly straightforward Piedmontese grape into a serious cellar wine.

Dolcetto d'Alba 20241 × 100ml

Roagna

Dolcetto d'Alba 2024

Piedmont, Italy
Dolcetto

Blackberry, dark cherry and sweet almond. Juicy, expressive Dolcetto.

More about this wine

This is not Dolcetto made as an afterthought. Roagna works with vines over 50 years old and can leave the wine on its skins for up to 100 days before ageing in wood and concrete.
