Williams Selyem

'Anderson Valley' Pinot Noir 2022

California, United States2022

Pinot Noir

The 2022 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir was new to the Williams Selyem portfolio. Eleven months in barrel, half of it new, gives this cool northern appellation a deliberately more concentrated frame than the estate’s familiar Sonoma bottlings.

Williams Selyem

The people behind the pour

Williams Selyem

Born from a humble garage experiment by a couple of friends who couldn't afford the French Burgundies they loved, this cult-status Russian River icon forever rewrote the rulebook for American Pinot Noir. utilising old-school methods like traditional foot-treading and gravity-led, unfined vinification, they coax jaw-dropping nuance from legendary neighbourhood vineyards to craft extraordinarily luscious, texturally decadent masterpieces that pulse with vibrant fruit purity and a sleek, seductive energy.

From vineyard to glass

A sense of place

California, United States

California

California with the volume turned down. Cool Pacific fog, warm sunshine and a patchwork of distinctive vineyards make Sonoma home to some of America’s most compelling wines. Expect freshness alongside generosity, from silken Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon.

United States

American wine emerged through early European settlers, with California’s first mission vineyards laying the groundwork. Prohibition halted progress, but the industry rebounded in the mid twentieth century, gaining global attention after the 1976 ‘Judgement of Paris’.Today, the United States has grown into one of the world’s most exciting wine producers, driven by diverse climates and a flexible approach to winemaking. Its appellation system is centred on AVAs, which define geographic origin rather than strict rules on grape or style. California leads the charge with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Zinfandel, while Oregon is known for elegant Pinot Noir and Washington for structured Syrah and Riesling amongst others. Beyond these hubs, emerging regions such as New York and Texas are building strong identities of their own. American wine is ultimately about experimentation, regional character and a confident sense of individuality.
